Hi, I’m Dasher or (Da CHER) for my Cajun friends. It’s a varietal flavor of French, Canary Island Spanish, German with a dash of English. You might be wondering why all this mumbo gumbo? Well, it’s because I’m 4 1/2 year old Catahoula Leopard dog/Mix. We are descendants of the greyhound, mastiff, and beauceron. Think of it as flavoring the breed to yield a unique Louisiana working dog. We have been called the MOST VERSATILE of the working dog breeds: cuz we herd, hunt, do law enforcement, search and rescue as well as drug detection. What isn’t there to love about us. Plus, we’re the official Louisiana state dog.
Now, my story doesn’t start on the hard street of New Orleans but in Dallas during a cold spell. I’ve been roaming for some time and found it harder and harder to find a warm place to get out of the terrible weather. Fortunately, Dallas Animal Services found and took me in. Unfortunately, I had no id or microchip, hence no one came looking for me. I waited and watched people come and go. My time at the shelter was coming up soon. Finally someone from Paws in the City came to rescue. Whew! Thank god for my dashing good looks and cool cat demeanor, which is what saved me… (Catahoula Leopard…cat…get it…) okay, my humor needs work, so I move along with my story.
Now that I’m with Paws, they told me that I will need a Foster parent while I wait for my forever parent and home. So I wanted to help them out by telling you everything about myself. First off, I’m male, about 45 lbs. and really smart (code for quick learner). I like to be active but know how to chill too. I am well-behaved, love to play with other dogs, but can be a bit shy at times. I have this easy short fur which makes me low maintenance and I love people. I enjoy lots of mental stimulation and need someone to be a strong leader, companion and cuddle buddy to me. If it sounds like I’m high maintenance, I’m not, it’s just that I love working, so put me on the job during the day and at night we can sit together in front of the TV. Got teens that need exercising, I can whip them into shape with daily jogs or walks.
I’m very much ready to settle down in one place with a nice yard and cozy bed with my humans, instead of all this moving around I’ve been doing. So if you are ready to be my “FOSTER” or “FOREVER parent” than please call, email or click that button now! I am waiting on pins and needles until I hear from you! Don’t wait cuz this Cajun pup is ready to Laissez les bon temps rouler (lay-zay lay bon ton rule-ay) let the good times roll!
