Collin College alum Jacob Peña was honored with the National Young Adult Man of the Year Award at the 87th Annual LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens) National Convention, July 12-16 in Washington, D.C.
Peña, of Allen, was the vice president of Collin College’s LULAC council last year and has been heavily involved in LULAC and in the community. He was recently elected as the Deputy Director for Young Adults for the state of Texas during the organization’s state convention in early June. He will be transferring to The University of Texas in Austin for the fall semester to pursue a degree in Government.
“Over the past few years, I have learned that when you do work like this; advocacy, organizing, and service, you cannot expect to be explicitly awarded or praised. The award you look for is in the work you do,” Peña said. “It is in the changes you make and in the lives you impact. Receiving this award from an organization that represents such valuable action and progress is an incredible honor, and I only hope that I can live up to what this award means with more action moving forward.”
