Texas GOP continue to support Trump despite new allegations

By Ruth Ferguson, NDG Editor

Today at a press conference in Los Angeles, Summer Zervos, a contestant on the fifth season of “The Apprentice,” accused Donald Trump of forcibly kissing and groping her in 2007 at the Beverly Hills hotel.
As these allegations continue to pile up against GOP Presidential candidate Trump and nationally GOP members put distance between themselves and Trump, prominent Texas Republicans continue to pledge their support. KHOU reported earlier this week, “Texas Republicans still supporting Trump: Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Gov. Greg Abbott, Rep. Pete Olson, Senator Ted Cruz, Senator John Cornyn.”  Congressman Will Hurd and Congresswoman Kay Granger are the only Republicans on record as withdrawing their support from Trump.
Lone Star Project Director Matt Angle said via a statement today, “Real victims of sexual assault, young and old, have had the courage to come forward and talk about abuse by Donald Trump, knowing that Trump will ridicule and attack them all over again. Trumps’ vile words and actions amount to sexual assault and disqualify him to be President or even a person deserving of our respect.”

This on the heels of a poll commissioned by WFAA-TV and Texas TEGNA television stations, showing Trump’s lead over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton slipped four points during the last week. He is now just add ahead of Clinton by 47 percent to 43 percent. The margin of error is four percent. This opens the real possibility a Democrat could carry Texas for the first time since Jimmy Carter was elected in 1976.

“For Texans, the most important judgment now is about statewide leaders like Greg Abbott and Dan Patrick, along with local Republicans like Ken Sheets and Rodney Anderson, who are sticking with Trump even though his sexual abuse of women has been confirmed,” Angle said.  “They present themselves as moral and God-fearing, yet their continued support for Donald Trump exposes them as neither.”

  1. …Trump knows what he’s talking about when he says that he could publicly shoot someone and not lose any support…reminds me of the former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards who said he could lose an election only if he “got caught in bed with a live boy or a dead woman”…of course I remember that Edwards eventually was sent to prison…how does the electorate ever get to the point that such candidates are allowed and elected???…something is certainly missing when so many people get fooled so well like they do in so many elections…
