Garland selects Rick Vasquez as new Assistant City Manager

garland-logoManaging Director Rick Vasquez has been chosen to become Assistant City Manager for the City of Garland. Rick joined the City earlier this year as Managing Director of Development Services.
“In his relatively short time with the City, Rick has proven that he has the knowledge, skill-set and temperament to succeed in this challenging role,” said City Manager Bryan Bradford. “Rick will continue to be primarily focused on the development area.”
Rick brings a wealth of experience to the executive team, which also includes Assistant City Manager John Baker. Rick has more than 30 years of municipal land development experience. He has worked with large and small municipalities throughout Texas facilitating the implementation of community revitalization, economic development, and transportation and housing programs.
Rick recently led the development of a sustainable and business-friendly development code for the City of Galveston. He guided the development of a commercial corridor and entertainment district form-based code and transportation plan to transform the City of South Padre Island into a walkable, pedestrian-oriented tourist destination. Rick earned a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Texas A&M University and is a Certified Public Manager.
