Dallas Children’s Theater’s (DCT) National Touring Production of John Steptoe’s MUFARO’S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS: AN AFRICAN TALE, a beautiful Zimbabwe-based Cinderella story, wraps up DCT’s 33rd season in splendid fashion. Since September, the touring company has taken this wonderful story on the road to 60 cities and 28 states and now returns home for a grand finale.

Celebrate goodness, generosity, and love with traditional dancing, rhythmic drumming, and glorious African song in this production based on the 1988 Caldecott Honor Award book, while it runs at the Rosewood Center for Family Arts from June 23 – July 9. NDG readers can win tickets for two to the show of your choice during this opening weekend. Visit our Facebook or Instagram profiles, like the post and tag a friend!

When Mufaro, an African villager, learns that the Great King seeks to meet the most worthy and beautiful women in order to find his queen, he decides to accompany his two daughters on the journey. Both are very beautiful, but they have their differences. Manyara is self-centered (but never in front of Mufaro), while Nyasha is considerate to people and to animals. The Great King sets up tests of character for each daughter to encounter along the way in this story about the strength and grace found only through true inner beauty.

“MUFARO’S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS: AN AFRICAN TALE is a wonderful folktale brought to life using music and dance to elevate the story. It celebrates virtue and kindness of heart with a lesson that is simple yet powerful: ‘as you sow, so shall you reap,’ or as a character in the play says, ‘pretty is as pretty does,’” said Sally Fiorello, Producing Director of National Tours. “By adding an exciting musical score, powerful choreography, imaginative staging, and beautiful scenery, our production has become a compelling piece of musical theater that continues to be popular with audiences of all ages and backgrounds all across the country.”

Tickets are available for purchase at dct.org.
