DALLAS — The 2017, D23 Goes 2 Work Hiring Fair will take place on Tuesday – October 17, at Red Bird Mall (Southwest Center Mall) from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Atrium, on the mall’s lower level. The mall’s address is 3662 W. Camp Wisdom Road near U.S. Hwy. 67 and I-20. The D23 Goes 2 Work Hiring Fair is sponsored by State Senator Royce West in collaboration with Workforce Solutions – Greater Dallas. It is the fourth in the series of employment fairs created by Senator West in 2015.
“For years when I’m out and about in the District or in public forums, without fail, someone will raise with me, issues related to employment. While education as a portal to opportunity and meaningful employment is something that I preach, sometimes education alone is not enough to open doors,” explains Senator West on the need for D23 Goes 2 Work. “In this Southern Dallas community we have experienced workers, young people fresh out of school or college and those with challenges who are still in need of connecting with job opportunities that will enable them to support themselves and their families at levels that will lift them above basic survival.
“On the other hand we have numerous employers and a growing economy that’s looking for skilled and qualified workers. So my thoughts were to create an opportunity that will bring these parties together in a way that will be beneficial to all. So D23 Goes 2 Work is meant to be where the rubber meets the road.” Senator West adds, “I am appreciative also to have Workforce Solutions – Greater Dallas and the Dallas County Community College District join me as partners in this effort.”
To date, more than 60 employers – some returning employers – have agreed to participate in this year’s D23 Goes 2 Work Hiring Fair. Businesses large and small and from across the employment spectrum – including public entities – have committed to participate with D23 Goes 2 Work. Notable employers include AT&T, FedEx, UPS, Charter Communications, Hertz, Conn’s, Parkland Hospital, UT Southwestern, the Small Business Administration (FEMA), the City of Dallas, Grand Prairie ISD, UT Arlington, UNT-Dallas and the University of North Texas.
