So unless the Dallas Cowboys snuck Zeke Elliott on today’s charter flight to Oxnard, California, he did not leave with the team as planned from Dallas. Elliott still has two years remaining on his contract, but after being the league-leading rusher two out of three years, he is ready to get paid now.
Jason Garret told the media yesterday, and other officials reportedly told WFAA today Zek would fly on the team plane today. However, he did not make the flight scheduled to leave at 1 p.m. it seemed during the local channel’s 1.5 stakeout shared via their Facebook Livestream. At one point with everyone else on the team, the team’s PR head Rich Dimple stood at the top of the stairs for several minutes, possibly on the lookout for late-arriving Zek or other players.
This is not actually confirmation he is staging a holdout as players have the right to use personal transportation to camp. It will not become official unless Zeke does not report to camp by Friday morning. However, it certainly adds pressure on the team after they said he was undoubtedly going to be there today. So they can expect to be bombarded with questions and headlines until he shows up.
Dak Prescott is the other half of the dynamic duo which is necessary for the Cowboys Super Bowl aspirations to come true. He is in talks for a contract extension, and reports surfaced this week suggesting he will likely get paid at or more than $30 million with a contract deal which might be completed during training camp.
