Cowboys handle Washington despite a slow start

Dallas Cowboys fans were perhaps a little nervous with the slow start of the team. After last week’s game, they likely did not expect to see the Washington Redskins take a 7-0 lead on Sunday afternoon. Especially not with the contribution of an interception from Dak Prescott.

However, with a critical offensive run by Prescott of 42 yards, a 51-yard touchdown throw to Devin Smith (who?) and touchdown throws to Amari Cooper and Jason Witten the Boys find a way to win. The Cowboys begin to pull away with the TD pass to Witten to take the lead in the game and never relinquish it. At the end of the day, fans celebrated the 31-21 victory as the team went to a 2-0 start for the 2019 season. Being perfect in the red zone so far this year helps, and the fact Prescott has been sacked only once.

Washington falls to 0-2, and now fans will watch the Sunday Night Game to see if the Atlanta Falcons will provide an assist against the Philadelphia Eagles. They are seen as the team top contender to dethrone the Cowboys as NFC East champs.

“The guys up front were outstanding, to be able to run the way we did,” Jason Garrett said during his post-game press conference discussing the keys to victory. The O-line was able to open enough holes for Ezekiel Elliott to gain 111 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown.

Prescott sped past Troy Aikman with his rushing efforts today, to gain the position of the third-most career rushing yards by a Cowboys QB. Also, in his second consecutive game, Prescott completed passes to eight different wide receivers.

The Dallas Cowboys defense is bending a little too much, but they are getting things done on the third down. Today they prevented Washington from keeping the ball offensively by shutting them out on third downs. Washington only converted on 2-9 third down plays.

The defense may not have gained any turnovers, despite one passing through the hands of a player, but they did keep Washington to hair shy of 300 yards total offense.
