The National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women (NOBEL Women)
stands in solidarity with State Representative Nicole Collier and commends her safe release from the Texas State Capitol.
While we are relieved by this outcome, we remain deeply concerned about the tactics being employed that seek to undermine the voices of women and minorities in state government.
“As Black women legislators, we recognize these absurd and dangerous political actions for what they are: calculated attempts to silence our voices, weaken minority representation, and undermine the role of women in shaping state policies, laws, and funding,” said Georgia State Senator Tonya Anderson , President of NOBEL Women. “This is not just about one lawmaker — it is about a system that seeks to marginalize communities by stripping away the power of their elected representatives.”

Rep. Collier’s detention reflects a troubling pattern of political maneuvering that threatens the principles of equity, representation, and democratic engagement. NOBEL Women urges state leaders to uphold the rights and dignity of all elected officials, regardless of gender or race, and to reject any actions that erode the trust of the public in the institutions meant to serve them.
We also call on community organizations, civil rights advocates, and everyday citizens across the country to remain vigilant and vocal against these abuses of power.
Black women have always carried the weight of defending democracy in America, and we will not allow intimidation or political games to erase our voices, our votes, or our vision for justice. We stand with Representative Nicole Collier as well as many of our Texas colleagues, and we will not be moved.
