Dez Bryant cuts a deal on family violence charges

Dez Bryant entered today into an agreement with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, regarding the incident that occurred July 2012 involving Bryant and his mother, Angela Bryant. Mr. Bryant has agreed to the conditions as set out by the DA, which includes participation in counseling for one year.

“Mr. Bryant understands the seriousness of this incident and already has started seeing a counselor for anger management,” said Royce West, Mr. Bryant’s attorney. “We want to stress that the incident was a family dispute. Dez and his family want to get this matter behind them and understand the serious nature of family violence accusations. As a result of this incident, they want to make sure that they develop the resources so if a family dispute arises in the future they can resolve through effective communication without raising voices.”

Mr. West adds, “The agreement did not require Mr. Bryant to make a plea on the family violence charge. Both Dez and his mother are satisfied with today’s decision. Ms. Bryant did not want charges filed against her son. After having an opportunity to talk to people who witnessed the incident she filed an Affidavit of Non-prosecution with the District Attorney’s Office. The family always felt they could resolve this matter.”
