District 100 Representative Eric Johnson (D-Dallas) has announced the formation of a new legislative caucus of the Texas House of Representatives, the Young Texans Legislative Caucus (YTLC), to highlight and address the needs of younger Texans.
“This new legislative caucus will highlight the concerns of younger Texans, especially when it comes to our state’s long term investments in education, infrastructure, and the management of our natural resources,” said Representative Johnson. “The Young Texans Legislative Caucus will also provide legislators with a vehicle for engaging directly with the young residents of our state,” concluded Johnson.
The 2010 census revealed that a majority of the population of both the United States and Texas is under the age of 40. While 53% of the United States population is under the age of 40, Texas is even younger with more than 58% of its population being age 40 or younger.
The YTLC is open to all members of the Texas House of Representatives who are 40 years old or younger or who represent a district where the percentage of the population under the age of 40 exceeds that of the state, currently 58%. The YTLC is non-partisan.
Eric Johnson represents District 100, which includes parts of Dallas and Mesquite, in the Texas House of Representatives. He currently serves on the House Committee on Higher Education, the House Committee on Appropriations, the interim House Committee on Manufacturing, and the Joint House and Senate Oversight Committee on Higher Education Governance, Excellence, and Transparency.
