CEDAR HILL – Real-life heroes from Cedar Hill High School visited younger students on April 10. It was part of the annual High School Heroes program where older students visit eight lower grade schools to share how to succeed in school and life.
Cedar Hill High School teachers nominated students for the High School Heroes team. Eighteen-year-old Madalyn Marshall was selected two years in a row. “We give them tangible motivation. One of the main things I tell the younger students is to get involved in clubs and organizations, but they have to learn to balance school work and other activities,” the senior said. “We also talk about the six pillars of character and how it applies to everyday life.”
Character is a key element of the High School Heroes presentation. For the past six years, the Cedar Hill Independent School District has infused character lessons in its curriculum at all grade levels. The students also participate in community projects that demonstrate character.
“In Cedar Hill ISD, we always look for ways to have our older students help our younger students. We also look for creative ways to keep our students learning about character,” said Dr. Chanda McGhee, director of Student Support and Community Services. “The High School Heroes program is really a learning experience for both our younger and our older students. We appreciate the support from The Turn-Around Agenda in organizing this program.”
The Turn-Around Agenda is a social outreach of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship with a mission to rebuild communities from the inside out.
