Urban League Guild honored Gifted Ten

urban league dallasThe Urban League Guild of Greater Dallas in partnership with AT&T Community NETwork Dallas chapter honored ten seniors for their academic achievements and their community service at a Luncheon Scholarship Tribute on Saturday, April 19 at the Cedar Hill Recreation Center, 310 E. Parkerville Road in Cedar Hill. The theme is The Gifted Ten: Honoring Academic Achievement and Paying It Forward with Character & Commitment.
“The idea for this scholarship stems from W.E.B. Dubois who used the term “the talented tenth” to describe the likelihood of one in ten black men becoming leaders of their race in the world, by continuing their education, writing books, or becoming directly involved in social change,” said Pat Mims, President of the Guild. “The students who are being honored have not only made good grades but they are doing big and small things to help others.”
The honorees were Nicholas Cobb, Raven Hawkins, Lakeisha Hayes, Cassidy Jones, Meagan Nash, Gabriela Vela, Kristen Harvey, Austin Mordahl, Victoria Hatton and Desiree Littleton.
