The Irving Arts Center – March Goes to the dogs!

The Irving Arts Center is a department of the City of Irving and an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.  In 2013, the Arts Center hosted 1,715 events, including 186 performances and 24 exhibitions and welcomed 111,358 visitors from 43 states and the District of Columbia. 3/7-8              Ballet Ensemble of Texas presents Graduation Ball & Other Ballets

Join the BET for two performances March 7 & 8. The company is under the direction of Joffery Ballet alum Lisa Slagle.  3/7 – 7:30 p.m. & 3/8 -2:30 p.m. l Carpenter Hall l $25-30

3/11               The Olate Dogs Variety Show

This troupe of rescue dogs led by Richard Olate and his son Nicholas, are a high-energy, fast-paced theatrical experience like no other.  Best known for stealing hearts while winning America’s Got Talent, their new variety show takes amazing dog tricks and stunts to a new level with comedy, acrobatics, music, and film clips. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the DFW Humane Society in Irving. 7 p.m. l Carpenter Hall l VIP Meet & Greet tickets – $75; Adult – $35 & 25; $10 discount for kids 12 & under on $25-35 tickets.

3/14               Irving Symphony presents an Orchestra Showcase

The Irving Symphony Orchestra shines the spotlight on the musicians of the orchestra playing works by Rossini, Bizet, Korsakov and Respighi. 8 p.m. l Carpenter Hall l $38-49

3/20-4/4        A Flea In Her Ear

Award-winning MainStage Irving-Las Colinas brings to the boards a turn-of-the-century French farce full of comedic chaos. An elegant barrister in Paris whose wife suspects he’s philandering attempts to catch him red-handed.  Audiences can expect slamming doors, beds that spin, a cast of zany characters, and beaucoup laughs!  2:30 & 8 p.m. l Dupree Theater l $19-21

3/21               Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra presents Jacob Cordover on Guitar

3/22               Pecos River Brass

The Entertainment Series of Irving showcases the big band sounds of the 20 piece Pecos River Brass, formed in 2000 and based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Featuring Robert Reid on vocals, PRB are known for their love of melody, harmony and rhythm and perform their own arrangements, as well as those by the jazz greats of the big band era. 2:30 p.m. l Carpenter Hall l $20

3/29               Dances with Dvorak!

New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving features works by Antonin Dvorak and Carl Nielsen. 3:30 p.m. l Carpenter Hall l $10-$18

Big Bend: Photographs by Terry Cockerham

Featuring dramatic black and white photographs of Big Bend National Park, famous for its natural resources and spectacular geology, by Irving Resident Terry Cockerham.

Golden Legacy: Original Art from 65 Years of Golden Books

Through April 26, Carpenter Hall Lobby

Sixty masterpieces of original illustration art are included in this exhibition from beloved picture-book series, Little Golden Books.  Launched in 1942 against the backdrop of WWII, Little Golden Books made high quality illustrated books available at affordable prices for the first time to millions of young children and their parents. Toured by the Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, Abilene Texas.
