Is Carson finally the GOP’s Great Black Hope?

According to the latest polls by the Wall Street Journal and NBC News, Donald Trump and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson are in a virtual tie as front runners for the GOP ticket. OK let that sink in — the GOP ticket next fall could be a reality TV star/businessman who has filed for bankruptcy multiple times and a staunchly conservative Black GOP answer to Obama?

Meanwhile on the other side Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders continues to gain ground on front runner former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The Democrats are getting so scared they are almost begging Vice President Joe Biden to run. This comes on heels of reports that former President Bill Clinton’s foundation is in such trouble that folks such as Pope Francis and Elton John turned down invitations to speak at the annual conference that kicks off this week.

The GOP have continued to believe that Black voters voted for President Barack Obama just because he is Black. Despite the fact that they have looked for their Great Black Hope in others including Herman Cane, with absolutely no success. But older Black voters can be more conservative and like all senior voters more consistently vote. Will his themes tied to faith appeal to them and help the GOP finally gain inroads into the black voter block dominated by Democrats for decades?
