Tupac Shakur documentaries spotlighted on UMC in June

Tupac-Shakur-Before-I-Wake-320x300Los Angeles, CA (BlackNews.com) — In honor of Black Music Month, RLJ Entertainment’s Urban Movie Channel (UMC) presents a month long of tributes and new titles to be added on Fridays throughout June. Join UMC as it pays tribute to music legends, with a special focus on old school hip hop. Kicking off the month is the premiere of Welcome to Blakroc, from hip hop pioneer and producer Damon Dash. The music/performance documentary focuses on the making of the album of the same name by the Rock/Blues duo, The Black Keys, and features guest appearances from several hip hop acts, including Mos Def, Nicole Wray, Pharoahe Monch, Billy Danze of M.O.P., Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest, Jim Jones, NOE of ByrdGang, Raekwon, RZA and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard of Wu-Tang Clan. A follow-up documentary, Blakroc 2, will debut on UMC later in 2016. Also premiering this month is the docu-series Hip Hop Nation, a behind-the-scenes look at the Hip Hop movement and its influence on pop culture.

On Friday, June 17, UMC adds the documentaries Tupac Shakur Vs, which features an in-depth never before seen 1995 interview with the late rapper, and Tupac Shakur: Before I Wake, a look back on Tupac’s final years through the eyes of rap industry legends Eazy-E and Russell Simmons, among others. Finally, UMC closes out the month with two titles premiering on Friday, June 24th that pay homage to two of the most legendary artists in music: Hendrix on Hendrix, the Jimi Hendrix documentary, and the UMC exclusive streaming premiere of the biopic,NINA, a tribute to the life and legacy of Nina Simone, which stars Zoe Saldana, David Oyelowo, Mike Epps, Keith David and Ella Joyce.
