Pre-Thanksgiving Community Event

(NDG Wire) Dallas businessman Oscar Joyner, President, Reach Media and Washington entrepreneur Wylie Kynard, President, WylieK and Friends have partnered together to host the 2nd Annual Redskins vs. Cowboys Soiree Weekend, November 20 – November 22 at the Fashion Industry Gallery (F.I.G.), 1807 Ross Avenue, Dallas.   The series of weekend events will feature a Pre-Thanksgiving Food Drive, College Fair, Student Empowerment Workshop and evening Soiree. The City of Dallas, Commissioner Taylor Brannon, and Dallas Cowboy Martellus Bennett’s Truly Blessed Foundation will serve as Ambassadors for the daytime activities, which are free to the public.

On Saturday, November 21, 2009, from 10:00 am to 12 noon, the F.I. G. will host the Community Appreciation Event.  The Student Empowerment workshop will be facilitated by former NFL Player, Cornelius Anthony and award-winning motivational speaker, Brian Bolden (www.brianbolden.com).  Students will be coached on the “12 Steps to Success” and empowering themselves to have more productive outcomes.

Representatives from colleges and universities nationwide will be in attendance to provide information on enrollment, admissions, scholarships and financial aid.    Students and parents will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to representatives of Grambling University, Mississippi State Valley University, University of Texas-Austin, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Florida A&M, DEVRY University, University of Phoenix, Paul Quinn College, Southern University, Prairie View A&M University, Westwood College and many more.  Students are encouraged to bring standardized testing scores and resumes.

The Dallas community is asked to donate canned goods and non-perishable food items in support of the Pre-Thanksgiving Food Drive.   Curb-side food drop-off will be available at the Fashion Industry Gallery for the duration of the event.   All donations will benefit the Central Dallas Ministries Food Pantry.  Commissioner Brannon encourages all Dallas-area residents to bring their college-bound children to the event, as well as a donation for the Food Drive.

Later in the evening, the F.I.G. will be transformed into a festive, sophisticated atmosphere for the 2nd Annual Redskins vs.  Dallas Weekend Soiree (adults only).  Many Dallas Cowboy fans, as well as their rival Redskins fans, will enjoy music, food and camaraderie from 8:00pm until 3:00am.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketalternative.com or www.dfwaction.com
