DFW Entertainment Calendar: Things to do in DFW Halloween weekend

Rover Dramawerks is presenting its opening weekend of Sherlock Holmes and the West End Horror Friday, Oct. 27 through Saturday, Oct. 28 at 221 W Parker Rd, Plano. Based on the famed detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and directed by Paul McKenzie, this play tells the story of Detective Holmes and his partner Dr. Watson taking the case of Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw in this classic mystery. The Friday night performance will begin at 8 p.m. with Saturday’s performances beginning at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.

Artisan Center Theater will be the sight of the production Phantom Friday, Oct. 27 through Saturday, Oct. 28 at 418 E Pipeline Rd, Hurst. The musical is directed by John Wilkerson and tells the tale of Erik, a man who finds an escape from his gloomy world in music. Friday’s performance will begin at 7:30 p.m., while Saturday will have two performances – one at 3 p.m. and one at 7:30 p.m. More information and tickets can be found and purchased here.

Ship’s Lounge will be hosting its weekly Soul Bounce on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 9 p.m. at 1613 Greenville Ave., Dallas. Led by Wanz Dover and a slew of Dallas soul DJs, the night will be packed with funk, soul, and old school jams at one of Lower Greenville’s legendary bars. Verb Kulture Ent. is hosting The 6th Annual Changing Faces Masquerade Ball at the Cimana Event Center at 14775 Midway Rd, Addison on Saturday, Oct. 28 beginning at 9 p.m. The event requires attendees to dress in formal attire and to bring a venetian mask to wear during the ball. A live band and DJ will provide entertainment as well as contests, raffles, giveaways, and a cash prize for the Best Mask in both the male and female categories. The event is organized in support of breast cancer awareness. The event is only for those aged 21 and older. Tickets start at $35 and must be purchased in advance of the event. Texas Theatre will be having a special screening of the 1973 supernatural horror hit The Exorcist on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 5 p.m. at 231 W. Jefferson Blvd., Dallas. Dubbed the “scariest film of all time” by Entertainment Weekly and selected by the Library of Congress to be preserved in its National Film Registry, the film is widely considered one of the greatest horror movies ever produced. Tickets for the screening are $10 and can be purchased here. The film is rated R and intended for mature audiences only.
