Rep. Eric Johnson & Rev. Henry Masters co-hosting Community and Police Town Hall Summit

State Representative Eric Johnson (D-Dallas) and the Reverend Dr. Henry L. Masters, Senior Pastor of St. Luke “Community” United Methodist Church, will co-host a town hall meeting bringing together representatives of the local community and law enforcement officials. The purpose of the meeting is to foster a dialogue between the local community and law enforcement in order to reduce violent crime and reverse the uptick in police related shootings in the City of Dallas.

“It is time for those of us who care about our community and who are interested in discussing this issue in an honest and respectful way to come together, get educated on the facts, and then take the appropriate action to help make our community safer, said Representative Johnson.

Joining Representative Johnson and Rev. Dr. Masters will be Dallas Police Chief David Brown, Dallas City Attorney Thomas P. Perkins, Jr., and representatives from the community who will address the concerns of homeowners, business owners, and our youth.

“The purpose of this meeting is not to point fingers or engage in more politics. Hopefully, our panelists will educate us all about the challenges they face as law enforcement, residents, and business owners in neighborhoods struggling with violent crime so that, working together, we can begin crafting solutions,” added Representative Johnson.

The meeting will take place at the historic St. Luke “Community” United Methodist Church, located in House District 100, on Saturday, August 25, 2012. The two hour meeting is scheduled to begin at 10 am and will include remarks from Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings. The panel, which will be moderated by Representative Johnson, will address a number of topics with questions from the audience to follow.

Eric Johnson represents House District 100, which includes parts of Dallas and Mesquite, in the Texas House of Representatives. He currently serves on both the House Committee on Higher Education and the House Committee on Appropriations. In addition, he serves on the Joint House and Senate Oversight Committee on Higher Education Governance, Excellence, and Transparency.
