Mother sues church for her daughter’s rape

By Kendria Brown, NDG Intern

An Oklahoma mother has filed a lawsuit against a Tulsa mega-church. The mother states that authorities at Victory Christian Center waited to report her daughter’s rape in an effort at “damage control”. The rape went unreported for two weeks.

The mother’s 13-year-old daughter was allegedly raped at the church by a former church employee, Chris Denman, preceding a church service on Aug. 13. Denman has been charged with raping the girl, and he has pleaded not guilty. An additional five other employees have been charged with failing to report the rape, and the mother has filed a lawsuit against the church.

The lawsuit was initially filed by Tulsa World in Tulsa County District Court. The lawsuit seeks over $75,000 and alleges that Victory Christian Center officials tried to conceal the allegation in an effort at “damage control”.

In a statement released by the church, they stated that employees failed to follow a written policy that needs to be used when allegations occur and need to be reported.
