The “Catfishing” Teacher

Greg Bogomol Facebook PicFormer Denton High School journalism teacher Greg Bogomol, 38 will not be winning teacher of the year. In fact, the jack-of-all-trades, (he also worked as a freelance sports reporter for The Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star-Telegram) is facing child pornography charges. Bogomol will face his first detention hearing Wednesday.

Federal documents state that after handing over his Sam Bogomol admitted messaging with several young boys between the ages of 14-17 to trick them into sending nude photos during an interview on May 6, 2014. The documents further allege that Bogomol posed as “Crystal Williams” a teenage girl on the Kik messenger app. Bogomol’s “catfish” act convinced a 15-year old boy from Louisiana to message him nude photos of himself.

After the boy sent the nude pictures, “Crystal” demanded more pictures. When the boy refused, Bogomol attempted to pressure the boy by threatening to send the picture to the victim’s friends. When the victim’s parents discovered the messages they alerted Homeland Security agents in Lake Charles, Louisana. Authorities traced a number used on the app back to Bogomol.
