The National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) enjoyed a successful Mid-Winter Training Conference for the Publishing Industry in Orlando, Florida Jan. 23-26 as showcased in our earlier story. Throughout the four-day conference national newsmakers such as the Honorable Andrew D. Gillum, former Mayor of Tallahassee, he was also the first African-American nominee representing the Democratic Party in the 2018 race to become governor.
Also, Florida’s own Benjamin L. Crump, Esq. who has represented numerous individuals and families fighting injustice throughout the country, was also a featured speaker. His clients include the family of Botham Shem Jean, a Dallas man killed by an off-duty police officer in his own apartment.
The theme of the conference was Innovation Training and Global Expansion of the Black Press of America. Sessions included a Training Session for NNPA Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and a panel discussion on investigative journalism, the panel on criminal justice reform and global expansion of the Black Press.
